July 24, (THEWILL) – In a thrilling second-half showdown, Liverpool’s 3-1 lead crumbled, as they settled for a 4-4 draw against Greuther Furth during their second pre-season friendly.
The Reds were dominant in the initial half, with Luis Diaz leading the charge, but a complete squad change at halftime led to a chaotic 45 minutes, leaving Liverpool fortunate to escape with a draw. Diaz’s exceptional display and Darwin Nunez’s brace were the highlights for Liverpool, while Furth’s Armindo Sieb emerged as the driving force behind the German side’s relentless pursuit of victory.
Liverpool launched the match with early attacking success down the wings, as Andy Robertson and Ben Doak posed constant threats to Furth’s defence. Diaz got the opening goal, but Diogo Jota missed a golden opportunity to double the lead. The Reds’ commanding first-half performance was overshadowed by a nightmare start in the second half when Adrian’s error gifted Julian Green a goal for Furth.
However, Liverpool quickly regained the lead through Mohamed Salah’s assist to Nunez, who finished clinically. As the game intensified, both teams exchanged chances, with Furth capitalising on a defensive lapse by Matip to level the score. Armindo Sieb’s late brace for Furth set the stage for an enthralling finale. But, Liverpool’s last-minute equaliser through Salah meant the Reds narrowly avoided a defeat.
