January 25, (THEWILL) – Leeds United has announced the appointment of former Manchester United assistant manager, Chris Armas, as the new assistant manager of the club.
The 50-year-old who was previously working with Ralf Rangnick during his spell as United interim manager, but left the club after the appointment of Erik ten Hag. He will be joining Leeds Manager Jesse Marsch, with whom he had worked together at New York Red Bulls between 2015 and 2018.
The club’s Director of football, Victor Orta, said, “We always have constant ideas to improve the team around Jesse and with Chris it is a perfect fit, they have both worked together in the past and he has experience of working in the Premier League. Chris was one of the best ever players in the history of the United States and his determination and skills will add value to our club and we are really happy he has joined us.”
Armas will be in the dugout for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Accrington Stanley if all the necessary paperwork is processed. However, his time as Rangnick’s assistant at Manchester United was not particularly successful, with the club winning just 11 of the 31 games the Austrian took charge of.
Leeds is currently just a point clear of the relegation places but do have a game in hand over the likes of West Ham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth, Everton, and Southampton.
