January 25, (THEWILL) – Napoli have made a significant move to strengthen their goalkeeping position with the loan signing of Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta.
The Serie A leaders, who currently sit 12 points clear at the top of the table, have secured the services of the 27-year-old shot-stopper until the end of the season, with the option to make the move permanent.
Gollini’s arrival at Napoli came as Salvatore Sirigu left the club to join Fiorentina in a swap transfer. Gollini had previously been on loan at Fiorentina at the start of the season, but he only made nine appearances for the club, conceding eight goals.
The Italian goalkeeper also spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, where he played 10 times. He will now be tasked with challenging Napoli’s current first-choice keeper, Alex Meret, who has been an ever-present in the league this term, conceding just 14 goals in 19 games.
Gollini will hope to provide some competition and help Napoli maintain their lead in the league.
