October 18, (THEWILL) – A former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, has denied media reports allegedly credited to him as a reaction to an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The alleged statement purportedly quoted the former governor as requesting the EFCC to make their investigations public, among other out-of-character remarks.
THEWILL reports that the former governor was summoned for questioning by the EFCC over alleged secret assets and financial deals exposed in the Pandora Papers.
Obi in a statement issued on Monday by his media spokesman, Valentine Obienyem, denied issuing any statement on the invitation.
The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2019 presidential election said he has not received the letter from the EFCC.
“From what is circulating, the letter appears to have been sent to an office he is no longer part of and is yet to reach him,” the statement from his media office said.
However, “Obi, being a law abiding Nigerian will honour all legitimate invitations from government agencies at all times,” it added.
