November 01, (THEWILL) – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the appointment of Personal Assistants to Paramount Rulers across the state’s 31 Local Government Areas and increased the allowances of traditional rulers as part of efforts to strengthen the traditional institution.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, disclosed this on at the weekend during the ministry’s ministerial briefing in Uyo, describing the interventions as part of the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare, dignity and operational capacity of traditional rulers.
Archibong said the governor had also provided official vehicles to all 31 Paramount Rulers, replacing seven unserviceable vehicles previously used by some of the monarchs.
He added that vehicles had equally been provided for Local Government Chairmen and both serving and immediate past Chairmen of the State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers.
The commissioner further disclosed that the governor donated a 32-seater Coaster bus to the traditional institution to facilitate official engagements, workshops, conferences, inspection tours and other collective activities.

Archibong said the recent increase in traditional rulers’ allowances was intended to cushion the effects of prevailing economic realities and improve their welfare.
Other provisions include regular security votes for Paramount Rulers, quarterly health assistance for monarchs and Christmas packages for traditional rulers across the state.
He said the interventions reflected the government’s recognition of the traditional institution as an important partner in governance, grassroots development and peacebuilding.
