August 29, (THEWILL) – Former Leicester City and Aston Villa midfielder, Marc Albrighton, has retired from professional football at age 34. The English player made 310 appearances in the English Premier League over his career.
During his decade-long stint at Leicester City, Albrighton won the EPL, FA Cup, and Championship titles. He also scored Leicester’s first goal in the Champions League. Albrighton left the club in June 2023 after 10 years of service.
Announcing his retirement on Instagram, Albrighton said he felt grateful for his career. He stated that playing for Aston Villa was his childhood dream, which he managed to achieve. The midfielder added that his time at Leicester brought “extraordinary moments” he could not have imagined.
Albrighton thanked his supporters, saying their backing made his achievements possible. His retirement marks the end of a successful career spanning nearly two decades in English football.
The 34-year-old’s decision to retire comes after a period without a club following his departure from Leicester City in 2023. His contributions to Leicester’s unexpected EPL victory in 2016 remain a notable part of his legacy.
