August 21, (THEWILL) — Nigerian music executive and producer Don Jazzy has revealed that Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has changed his life.
The Mavin Records boss made the comment on X on Thursday while responding to a fan who praised his role in the singer’s career.
A fan praised Don Jazzy for discovering Ayra Starr, writing, “Don Jazzy really saved Ayra Starr if not she for still dey teach kindergarten children,” alongside an old photo of the singer.
Responding to the post, Don Jazzy said Ayra Starr had also made a significant impact on his own life. He recalled discovering her through an Instagram freestyle before signing her to Mavin Records.
“She has most definitely changed my own life too. I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle o. And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl,” he wrote.
Don Jazzy discovered Ayra Starr through her social media freestyles before signing her to Mavin Records in 2021.
She has since become one of the leading names in Afrobeats, earning international recognition and Grammy nominations.
The singer recently released her third studio album, “Starrgirl”, on August 14. The 16-track project features collaborations with Wizkid, Rema, ZAYN, Leon Thomas, kwn, Theodora and Danny Ocean.
Wizkid appears on “Gimme Dat”, while Rema features on “Who’s Dat Girl”. ZAYN also appears on “Heaven Baby”.
Ayra Starr’s rise has earned her two Grammy nominations in the Best African Music Performance category, first for her global hit “Rush” and later for “Gimme Dat”, her collaboration with Wizkid.
