BEVERLY HILLS, April 10, (THEWILL) – In another record-breaking feat at the ongoing sports fiesta, Edo2020 in Benin City, the boxer Adedeji Adegbola from Team Ondo, wrote his name boldly in the record books for the fastest knockout when he sent his opponent, Oluwafemi Adetoye, of Team Yobe to the canvas in just 15 seconds flat.
Adegbola set a marker for his readiness to take on all comers with his domination of Adetoye in the first round of their heavyweight quarter-final boxing bout at the Oba Akenzua Cultural Cen, Benin.
Adegbola’s sweat-less boxing masterclass moved him to the semi-finals of the heavyweight category bettering his chances of leaving the NSF with a medal and sounding a note of warning to the competition.
He remains in good stead for victory alongside five other teammates vying in other weight categories of the boxing events.
In his post-match comments, the record-breaker attributed his victory to the level of his preparation while expressing his optimism of taking the gold medal in the division: “I am happy and I thank God, I trained very well ahead of the festival and I thank my coaches for the advice and the training process.”
One of those who was at ringside for the purpose of supporting Adegbola during his event, and who is at the NSF to encourage Team Ondo, was one-time Commissioner for Sports in Ondo State, Dotun Owanikin.
Owanikin’s excitement at the victory was apparent in his congratulations and he optimistically claimed the gold ahead of the final: “This 2020 Sports festival gold in the heavyweight category is reserved for Ondo State, through this jewel.”
