August 11, (THEWILL) — Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has appealed to US President Donald Trump and the international community to pay attention to the upcoming Osun State governorship election.
The singer made the appeal in an open letter posted on X on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, ahead of Saturday’s election.
In the letter, Davido expressed concern over tension in the state and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process.
He called for voters to be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully and without fear. He also urged authorities to protect voters and ensure that every vote is respected.
Davido said he was appealing to Trump because of the concerns surrounding the election and urged the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the process.
He called on relevant authorities to ensure a peaceful and transparent election, ending his message with an appeal for a free and fair vote.

A CALL FOR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP
President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process.
Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.
I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.
We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election. @realDonaldTrump

Davido’s Concerns Ahead of Osun Poll

@olowosaam questioned Davido’s decision to seek Trump’s attention, writing, “You didn’t call on his attention in the last election why are you calling on him now? Since the last election went well, I believe this one will also go well or rather call on the attention of the country’s president and not another country’s. What is Trump supposed to do?”
However, @eraniya_osogbo supported Davido’s intervention, saying, “Talk and do But Osun people does not deserve a bad government or who can’t care for them .. Davido just did the best thing.”
Meanwhile, @kelecas70 backed Adeleke’s re-election bid and praised Davido for raising awareness ahead of the poll. “I support our governor, Ademola Adeleke deserves a second term, Well done Davido. I like as you’re creating a very serious awareness even though may be Trump won’t do anything but the awareness alone won’t allow APC to do any nonsense rigging on election day, I like your strategy,” the user wrote.
