Cash Crunch: Protests Rock Lagos

February 17, (THEWILL) – Protests over the scarcity of Naira notes erupted in some parts of Lagos State Friday morning.

In the Ojota, Ketu and Mile 12 areas of the State, irate youths blocked the Ikorodu expressway and stopped motorists from plying the ever-busy road.

There were also pockets of protest in some parts of Ikorodu including Sabo, Majidun, Agric and Ogolonto, as well as Okekoto area of Agege.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said normalcy had returned to the areas.

“Free movement of vehicles and people fully restored. Our officers and men are still on ground to prevent any breakdown of law and order. If you see something, say something”, he said.

On attacks on banks in the Epe area of the state, Hundeyin said the information at his disposal indicated that it was one bank that was being attacked, adding that security operatives were already on ground to handle the situation.

However, a Security alert blog, EONS Intelligence, reported that Access Bank had directed all branches in Lagos to shutdown over growing threats of attacks on banks.

The report also added that the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and other Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI), have also threatened to shut down operations across the country should the attacks on banks continue.
