February 10, (THEWILL) – The senator representing Taraba south, Dr Emmanuel Bwacha, has been declared winner of the governorship Primary election rerun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Supreme Court on February 2, upheld the Federal High Court ruling, which nullified the May 25, 2022 primary that produced Senator Bwacha, as the candidate and ordered fresh primary election within 14 days.
Chairman of the electoral committee, General Tukur Buratai (rtd), who announced the result of the primary election rerun, held in Jalingo on Friday, said Bwacha polled 778 votes to defeat his close rival, Senator Yusuf A Yusuf, who scored 5 votes.
Buratai earlier announced that a total of 840 delegates were expected to participate in the exercise, but only 796 were accredited.
THEWILL reports that other aspirants who contested in the election, Chief David Sabo Kente, Dr Anthony Manzo, Barr. Danladi Kifasi and Engr. Sale Mamma, both got zero votes, while 8 votes were declared invalid.
In his reaction, Bwacha described the result as a confirmation that people of the state were truly yearning for good governance.
Bwacha commended Buratai, the APC and the Independent national electoral Commission (INEC) for a credible exercise.
He also thanked the delegates for supporting him and promised to ensure dividend of democracy for the people if elected the next governor of Taraba state.
The election was witnessed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Taraba Umar Gajirma; Kogi Deputy Governor Edward Onoja; former Governor Jolly Nyame; House of Representatives candidate for Takum/Ussa/Donga Constituency Rt Hon. Mark Bako Useni, Member, House of Representatives representing Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, Danjuma Shiddi and the APC State Exco, led by Barrister Ibrahim El-Sudi.
