August 27, (THEWILL) — Former Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has resigned her membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending her latest attempt to pursue the Ogun State governorship under the ruling party.
The former NTA sports presenter, announced her resignation on Thursday, saying she had formally notified the APC leadership in the state and submitted her resignation letter.
THEWILL reports that the development comes months after she declared her intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the APC platform, despite the political alignment that had already emerged around Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, who was backed by Governor Abiodun.
Her resignation also comes just 72 hours after the Ogun APC reaffirmed Adeola as its recognised candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Sarafa-Yusuf, however, did not expressly link her decision to the party’s choice of candidate. Instead, she presented her departure as a carefully considered decision following a period of travelling, spending time with her family and reflecting on her political journey.
“After an extended period of travelling and spending time with family and following much thought and quiet reflection, I have decided to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Today, I informed the leadership of the party in Ogun State and sent in my resignation letter,”, she said.

Explaining her decision, Sarafa-Yusuf described her years in the APC as an important part of her political journey, acknowledging the relationships and experiences she acquired in the party.
“My time in the APC has been an important part of my political journey, and I am grateful for the people I have met, the relationships I have built and the experiences that have shaped my understanding of public service and leadership,” she said.
She, however, said continued political participation sometimes required individuals to reassess their direction.
“However, there comes a time when one must have the courage to reassess one’s path,” she said.
Sarafa-Yusuf said she had reached such a point and needed to carefully consider how she could continue to contribute to Ogun State and Nigeria.
“At this point in my journey, I believe it is important to consider carefully how best I can continue to contribute to Ogun State and Nigeria, and I am comfortable taking the time to make that decision thoughtfully,” she said.
The former governor’s aide did not announce a new political party or disclose whether she would continue her 2027 governorship ambition on another platform.
