Update: Death Toll Now 30

The spokesman of NEMA, AbdulKadir Ibrahim has put the death toll so far from the Molai mosque attack at 30.

Ibrahim in a text message to our Maiduguri correspondent said: “… A suicide bomber came on a bicycle and attacked the mosque where the community was observing the Magrib prayer. After the first attack, the civilian JTF (youth volunteers vigilante), relatives and other people who came to rescue the victims, unknown to them the second suicide bomber was around and he detonated his explosive right in their midst, killing more people.

“Thirty people were killed and have been deposited at the mortuary of the Borno state specialist hospital. Seven persons are in critical condition.”

SAN FRANCISCO, October 15, (THEWILL) – 2 suicide bombers have attacked a mosque in Molai, at the outskirts of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, leaving scores dead.

The attacks occurred around 6.30pm on Thursday, witnesses told THEWILL.

The attacks bear the hallmark of the Boko Haram, a terrorist group that recently pledged allegiance to ISIS.

Meanwhile, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderemi Opadokun has confirmed that fourteen people were killed in what he described as a twin suicide attack.

The commissioner in a text message to the media said: “Twin IED explosions happened at Molai, outskirt of Maiduguri about 1835 hrs. of 15/10/15 (Thursday).

“Two Suspected Suicide Bombers detonated IEDS in and outside a Mosque at Molai.

“The mosque consequently collapsed injuring many people praying, while number of death is about 14 so far including the two bombers.

“Casualties have been evacuated to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and Specialist Hospitals Maiduguri.

“Investigation is in progress and normalcy has been restored to the area.”
