SAN FRANCISCO, July 29, (THEWILL) – No fewer than eight persons were killed with 14 others injuredon Fridaynight when two female suicide bombers hit an Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Confirming the incident to reporters in Maiduguri on Saturday, Chairman of the council, Alhaji Rawa Modu, said that the suicide bombers infiltrated into the camp and detonated explosives.
The casualty figure given by Modu however differs from the one by the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, which said 14 persons died from the suicide mission.
Reuters quotes the SEMA spokesman, Bello Dambatta, as saying; “We have so far evacuated 38 victims comprising 14 dead and 24 injured”.
The council chairman, who visited some of the victims, said, “Two female suicide bombers attacked the 24 Housing estate at about 9: 30 p.mon Friday.
“Seven persons died on the spot and one other died in the hospital, while 14 other persons were receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri.
Modu said that the council had distributed metal detectors to members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, to enhance security at the camp.
