BEVERLY HILLS, April 20, (THEWILL) – It was not the move any pundit could have predicted but, that is how football transfers occur these days.
It is understood, in reports monitored by THEWILL, that Bundesliga’s Bayern Munich outgoing defender, David Alaba, has agreed to a five-year contract with La Liga giants Real Madrid.
This brings to a fascinating end the months of speculation that had ceaselessly swirled about the defender concerning his future, especially after he personally confirmed his decision to part ways with the club where he debuted as the club’s youngest player in history at the time, in February 2010.
Alaba entered that game, a DFB-Pokal Cup meeting with Greuther Furth, as a 17-year-old and capped the memorable occasion with the sensation of setting up a goal for club French legend, Franck Ribery, within a minute of being subbed on.
There were several clubs trying to entice the now 28-year-old experienced defender to sign for them after leaving the Bavarian giants, including the like of big spenders Manchester City, and Chelsea, with Catalan bigwigs Barcelona included, but he did not bite.
Now, as reports from some sources indicate, the Austrian defender has agreed to join Real Madrid on a contract running until 2026, although nothing has been signed at this stage.
