To this end, he said the Government would give a facelift to the Faculty of Law, Niger Delta University, Yenagoa, to ensure effective teaching and learning as well as increase the number of law students approved for admission annually by the Council of Legal Education.

While thanking the Committee for the expeditious manner they carried out their assignment, Senator Ewhrudjakpo assured that the Government would look into the report with a view to implementing all relevant and necessary recommendations.

Earlier in his presentation, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr Alabo Ozubide, reeled out the recommendations of the Committee to include the construction of a befitting law faculty building, hostel accommodation and additional lecture halls.

To build the faculty building, the Committee suggested that the Government should take some parcel of land measuring approximately 1,646 square metres from the premises of the Bishop Dimeari Grammar School (BDGS), Ovom.

According to Dr Ozubide, the Committee also recommended that “the parcel of land behind the present administrative building of the Faculty of Law, adjoining Gwegwe Street, measuring about 7,351 square metres, be used for the building of male and female hostels.”

It, however, urged the Government to guard against any further activity capable of reducing the landmass currently occupied by BDGS to enable the school to maintain its standard sports field, tracks and aesthetic premises.

The Committee, which has the Director General, Directorate for Education Inspection and Policy Services, Ms Biboye Ogola, as its Secretary, equally stressed the need for the State Government to provide some employment benefits to the host community.

Members of the Committee on the Upgrade of the Faculty of Law, Niger Delta University, Yenagoa, include the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Christopher Ewhrudjakpo; the Sub-Dean, Faculty of Law, NDU, Dr Gina Elvis-Imo and the HOD, Department of Jurisprudence and Public Law, Dr Gogo Otuturu.

Others include the Acting Principal of BDGS, Ovom, Mrs Asamaowei Beauty; Vice Principal Academics, BDGS, Mr Faran Kelvin; a representative of the Ministry of Works, Mr Faweh James, and the CDC Chairman of Yenagoa Community, Mr Otobo Kenneth.
