July 11, (THEWILL) – At least four police officers were killed on Monday night by armed bandits, who attacked a checkpoint along Gusau-Bungudu Road, in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the attack on Tuesday.
“We went there this morning and I can confirm to you that four of our personnel were killed during the attack, they were on patrol where they used to mount a checkpoint before moving to another location, the bandits engaged them unaware,” said Abubakar.
A resident of Bungudu town, Ibrahim Bungudu, said the bandits also shot one person at Tagero village and rustled several cattle.
“The bandits ambushed the police along Gusau-Bungudu road close to Nabature company and killed four. They also rustled many cattle at Tagero village under Furfuri district; one person was shot in the hand in the village,” he said.
