BEVERLY HILLS, May 23, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian football family is mourning the death of Audu Adamu, who until his demise was the coach of the Beach Soccer national football team. Making the information public, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the coach of the Supers Sand Eagles died on Saturday.

A tweet from the official NFF account read: “We are sad to announce the demise of Super Sand Eagles coach Audu Adamu Ejo after a brief illness. Late Coach Ejo contributed immensely to the development of Beach Soccer in Nigeria. Our thoughts are with his family and the Football community. May his soul Rest In Peace.”

“Ejo,” as Adamu was fondly called, led the Super Sand Eagles to several FIFA World Cup and African Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaigns.

Following his appointment as Nigeria’s Beach Soccer team technical adviser in 2009, Adamu instantly led Nigeria to win the Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in South Africa the same year. In particular, his charges reached the quarterfinals of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna, Italy, in 2011.

Aside that achievement, coach Adamu’s Super Sand Eagles competed for and won several medals in the Beach Soccer AFCON, including winning the Copa Lagos three times on home soil, while demonstrating their strong football credentials during outings at the FIFA World Cup in Samoa, Bahamas and Paraguay.

Unfortunately, the Beach Soccer coach eventually lost the fixture that mattered most in the game of life as he succumbed in his fight against diabetes, which ultimately claimed his life.

The national football body, through their General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, noted: “It is very painful for us at the NFF. Coach Adamu was a very dedicated head of the technical crew of our Beach Soccer Team. He won several laurels with the team and was a highly disciplined and dedicated individual.

“The NFF never had any serious issues with him all through the years he spent with the Supersand Eagles. He did his job quietly and never courted undue limelight. He was very hard working, energetic and committed to beach soccer, and was simple, humble and humane. Nigerian Football will miss him.

“We love him but God loves him more. We pray that God grant him eternal rest and also grant the family and loved ones he has left behind eternal rest.”
