October 5, (THEWILL) – The Akwa Ibom State Government says it will sustain the implementation and commissioning of development projects across the state despite increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, stated this while featuring on a live programme on XL FM, Uyo, during which he reviewed activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State.
Umanah said the administration of Governor Umo Eno remained focused on its development agenda, with projects spread across the state’s 31 Local Government Areas, insisting that the government would not allow political distractions to affect its programme of development.
According to him, the 39 projects commissioned as part of the 39th anniversary celebrations were only a portion of the 85 projects being undertaken by the administration.
“The administration remains focused on delivering projects and programmes that have direct impact on the people. The political season will not stop governance or the implementation of projects across the state,” Umanah said.

He added that project commissioning would continue alongside political activities, stressing that the administration was determined to maintain its development momentum.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain committed to what he described as the “Akwa Ibom project” and support initiatives aimed at advancing development across the state.

Beyond infrastructure, Umanah highlighted the administration’s youth development programmes, disclosing that the first batch of trainees who underwent digital skills training at the newly commissioned Youth Development Centre in Oron would graduate on October 9.
He said similar digital skills and entrepreneurial training programmes would soon commence at other Youth Development Centres across the state, as part of efforts to equip young people with skills and opportunities for economic participation.
Umanah said the government’s development agenda therefore extended beyond physical infrastructure to human capital development, particularly through youth empowerment and skills acquisition.
“Our message is clear: development will not stop because politics is approaching. We are focused on delivering the projects and programmes we have committed to, while ensuring that young people also benefit through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.
“The 39 projects already commissioned are part of a wider programme, and more projects are underway across the state.”
The Commissioner said the administration would continue to provide information on its projects and programmes while encouraging citizens to remain engaged with the development process.
