September 22, (THEWILL) – Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is expected in Akwa Ibom State on Friday on a one-day working visit to, among other things, commemorate the state’s 34th anniversary.
The vice president will commission the Dakkada Luxury Housing Estate and the Dakkada Tower as part of events lined up to mark the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation.
Speaking to journalists during a pre-anniversary parley at the NUJ press center, Information Drive, Uyo, the state commissioner for information and strategy, Comrade Ini Emem Obong said:
“On Friday, His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will be in Akwa Ibom to inaugurate the Dakkada estate. When he lands at the airport, he will make his first stop at the Dakkada luxury estate to flag that off. The Dakkada estate is designed to provide maximum housing for people who can afford it.
“When he flags off the Dakkada luxury estate, he would move immediately to the central business district of Uyo and inaugurate the Dakkada Towers. It is a smart intelligent building fitted with the best communication and security gadgets. When he is done with that, his official visit to Akwa Ibom would have come to an end.”
TheWILL recalls that the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, mentioned during a media chat in May to mark his sixth year in office that he was waiting for the Smart Office Complex to be fully occupied by tenants before commissioning.
The commissioner noted that the complex is mostly occupied. He said the infectious nature of the delta variant of COVID-19 has cast a slight pall on celebratory plans, adding that the usual public holiday to mark the day would not be observed this year.
The anniversary will witness the commissioning of many roads, including an internal road network within the state, swearing in of some paramount rulers, and other events.
