Why I Took A Step Back From Music – Reminisce

November 05, (THEWILL) – Afrobeats artiste, Remilekun Khalid Safaru, known by his stage names, Reminisce and Alaga Ibile, has recently emerged from a musical hiatus, shedding light on the reason behind his absence from the music scene.

In a candid interview, the artiste unveiled a poignant realisation that prompted him to reevaluate his priorities.

The revelation centred around Reminisce recognising a growing emotional distance between himself and his family. This introspection led him to make a pivotal decision – placing his family at the forefront of his life, superseding even his thriving musical career.

During the interview, Reminisce disclosed a poignant detail about his home environment. Astonishingly, he confessed that his house had undergone repainting two years prior, a fact he remained oblivious to. This realisation starkly illustrates the extent to which he immersed himself in his professional endeavours, unintentionally overlooking the subtleties of his personal space.

The veteran singer emphasised the paramount importance of family in his life, asserting that it takes precedence over all other commitments. He spoke earnestly about recognising the need to step back from the relentless music industry hustle, realising that prolonged periods away from his children were eroding the familial bonds he held dear.

Reminisce shared the impact of his relentless album releases and constant engagement in the music business, revealing how these endeavors had inadvertently created a divide within his household. The toll of running around and hustling had manifested in a way that he spent days at home without truly connecting with his own children.

In a conscious effort to rectify this imbalance, Reminisce deliberately chose to prioritise his family. This decision included stepping back from the music scene temporarily to dedicate more time to his loved ones. By acknowledging the unnoticed changes within his own living space, he highlighted the sacrifice and self-reflection required to maintain a harmonious balance between personal and professional life.

“There were times I don’t see my kids for 4 days and we live together, my house painting was changed for almost two years and I didn’t notice”, he said.

Reminisce made a notable appearance in the 2018 Nigerian movie “King of Boys,” a political crime thriller directed by Kemi Adetiba and boasting a star-studded cast. In 2021, he returned for the sequel, aptly titled “King of Boys: Return of the King.”

However, he has come back to the music industry dropping his highly awaited album, “ATSG, Vol. 1,” after seven years. The title stands for “Alaye To Se Gogo.”
