Why I Declined Invitation To Join APC – Femi Kuti

SAN FRANCISCO, September 05, (THEWILL) – Afrobeat musician, Femi Kuti said he declined an invitation by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) because President Buhari jailed his father “in the 80s”.

In a series of tweets on Friday, the 58-year-old musician said he declined the invitation of the APC because of President Buhari who jailed “my father in the 80s”. Femi added that he “didn’t believe any of the two major political parties have the genuine interest of Nigerians at heart”.

When asked about his role in the January 2012 ‘Occupy Nigeria Protest’, Femi said he pulled out immediately he realised it was politically motivated.

“I want to state for clarity and posterity, my role in the Ojota protest. I was invited for what I and many believed was a genuine cause regarding the cost of fuel. As soon as I found out it was politically motivated, I pulled out. I got a lot of backlash at the time but stood my ground”.

“For the record, I have never and will never affiliate with any political party that I don’t feel have the genuine interest of the people of Nigeria at heart”, he added.
