August 26, (THEWILL) — Ibom Air has taken delivery of its third Airbus A220-300 aircraft, marking another major step in the airline’s fleet renewal and expansion programme as the Akwa Ibom State-owned carrier moves to increase capacity and strengthen its domestic and regional operations.
The aircraft, registered 5N-CDC, was formally handed over to Ibom Air at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada, on Wednesday following the signing of the Transfer of Title documents by the airline’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, George Uriesi.
THEWILL reports that the latest delivery brings Ibom Air’s total fleet to 10 aircraft, comprising seven Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Regional Jets (CRJ900s) and three Airbus A220-300s.
The addition further reduces the average age of the airline’s fleet and reinforces its position as one of Nigeria’s airlines operating a relatively young and modern fleet.
Speaking after the handover ceremony, Uriesi described the delivery as a significant milestone for the airline, while acknowledging the support of the Akwa Ibom State Government.
“We are most delighted to receive the third A220-300 into our growing, modern fleet,” he said.
Uriesi thanked the airline’s shareholder and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his support and confidence in the carrier, saying the new aircraft would have a significant impact on its operations.

According to him, the A220-300 would make the airline’s operations safer, more passenger-friendly, environmentally responsible and more efficient.
“We look forward to harnessing the myriad opportunities the A220 brings as we continue to expand our network and strengthen our position as a leading airline in Nigeria and West Africa,” he added.
The Head of the Airbus A220 Programme and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Canada, Guillaume Chevasson, also congratulated Ibom Air on the delivery, describing the A220 as suitable for the airline’s fleet modernisation strategy.
Chevasson said the aircraft offered operational flexibility, fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and performance suited to both domestic and regional routes.
“We are honoured by Ibom Air’s trust in Airbus and the A220 Family,” he said, assuring the airline of Airbus’ continued support as it expands.
