November 08, (THEWILL) – Whoopi Goldberg, an ace American actress, has become the latest celebrity to delete her Twitter account in the wake of Elon Musk’s takeover.

The 66-year-old announced her decision to quit Twitter in a monologue on The View, a US talk show, in which she said Twitter was a “mess”.

She appeared to have also made reference to the suspension of Kathy Griffin for impersonating Musk.

“I’m going to get out, and if it settles down and I feel more comfortable, maybe I’ll come back. But as of tonight, I’m done with Twitter,” Goldberg said.

“It’s become a mess. I’m getting off. I’m getting off today because I just feel like, you know, it’s so messy.

“Some speech is not OK free speech. So everybody has to agree on that, but if people keep saying ‘You hurt my free speech’ it’s going to be a problem. You know what? This is our problem. But it ain’t my problem today because I’m out.”

This stretches the list of celebrities who have left the social network since Musk took over its ownership last month.

Gigi Hadid and Toni Braxton, the US model and singer respectively, also deleted their accounts.

Hadidi said that it wasn’t a place she wanted to be any longer.

“I deactivated my Twitter account today,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories.

“For a long time, but especially with its new leadership, it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate and bigotry, and it’s not a place I want to be a part of.

“Only sorry to the fans, who I’ve loved connecting with for a decade via Twitter, but I can’t say it’s a safe place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than harm.”

On her part, Braxton wrote: “I’m shocked and appalled at some of the ‘free speech’ I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition.

“Hate speech under the veil of ‘free speech’ is unacceptable. I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other people of color.”

“Welp. It’s been fun on Twitter. I’m out. See you on other platforms, peeps. Sorry, this one’s just not for me,” she said.
