Wamakko Beats Sokoto Deputy Gov To Retain Senate Seat

April 16, (THEWILL) – The Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic (PDP), who is the current Deputy Governor of the state, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, in Saturday’s supplementary elections.

Wamakko, a former Governor of Sokoto State, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after defeating his closest rival, Manir Dan’Iya, with a margin of 23,023 votes.

Ibrahim Magawata, the Returning Officer for the Sokoto North senatorial election, said Aliyu Wamakko of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 141,468 votes to defeat Manir Dan’Iya, who polled 118,445 votes.

With his victory at the polls, Wamakko, who is the APC Leader in Sokoto State, is returning to the red chamber for the third term.
