October 17, (THEWILL) – A stand collapsed as Vitesse Arnhem fans celebrated with their players after their win at NEC Nijmegen on Sunday, prompting an investigation.
When the stand gave way, the fans were celebrating in unison after the 1-0 victory thanks to Nikolai Baden’s goal.
It was a shocking moment, but no one was injured, which is fortunate given the close proximity of the fans and the way the stand collapsed.
Hubert Bruls, the mayor of Nijmegen, has expressed his displeasure with the incident: “I am very shocked by what happened,” Bruls is quoted as saying by De Telegraaf. “Fortunately, as far as is known, no one was injured. I want an investigation into what happened here as soon as possible.”
According to Omroep Gelderland, a Vitesse fan said the incident was unexpected, but no one was hurt.
