Victor Osimhen Suffers Contracture Of Right Calf

October 31, (THEWILL) – Victor Osimhen of the Super Eagles has gastrocnemius contracture in his right calf, according to his Italian club Napoli.

The 22-year-old Nigerian international withdrew from training ahead of Napoli’s Serie A match against Salernitana, claiming muscle soreness. He had a test to see what kind of damage he had, and it revealed a contracture of his right gastrocnemius.

The club issued a statement on their website that provided this update. It read: “Victor Osimhen underwent diagnostic tests at the Pineta Grande clinic on Sunday, which revealed a gastrocnemius contracture in his right calf.

“The player has begun a treatment programme and will be re-assessed over the coming days.”

Osimhen’s return date is unknown, however depending on the severity of his injury, he could be back in a few days.

Yet, the loss of the forward is a major setback for the Neapolitans. As THEWILL reported, he has been their best performer in all competitions this season. With nine goals in 12 games for the Neapolitans, the former Lille player has started the current season like a man on a mission.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will keep an eye on Osinhem’s recovery ahead of November’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde and Liberia.
