Uncertainty Surrounds Super Eagles Manager’s Future As NFF Denies Renewal Reports

June 29, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed recent reports claiming that the contract of Super Eagles Manager, Jose Peseiro, has been renewed.

Speculation had circulated that Peseiro’s contract was extended until after the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, with a condition of achieving a minimum semi-final finish. However, NFF Media Director, Ademola Olajire, refuted these claims, stating that the Federation has yet to initiate the process of reviewing Peseiro’s contract, which is set to expire this week.

Olajire clarified: “I am not aware that Peseiro’s contract has been renewed. Such information will be released by the NFF when it happens.” THEWILL recalls that the Federation recently sought public opinion through social media on the idea of retaining the Portuguese coach as the Super Eagles head coach.

Peseiro, who took over from Austin Eguavoen on May 15, 2022, currently earns a monthly salary of $70,000. Despite the team’s qualification for the 2024 AFCON after defeating the Leone Stars 3-2 in Liberia, doubts linger regarding Peseiro’s future as some stakeholders believe his performance with the Eagles has been less than satisfactory.

There are growing speculations that former Super Eagles players, Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George, who led Enyimba of Aba to victory in the 2022/2023 abridged season of the Nigeria Premier League, may be appointed as Peseiro’s successors. However, the NFF has not made any official announcements regarding the potential change in coaching staff.
