July 10, (THEWILL) – The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has slammed the English Football Association with a fine to the tune of €30,000 euros (about £26,600) for the behaviour of England’s fans during their semi-final match against Denmark on Wednesday, July 7 at Wembley Stadium.

Some fans reportedly used a laser pointer to blur the vision of Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel especially at the point where he stood against team captain Harry Kane for the controversial penalty awarded the Three Lions in the first half of extra time.

THEWILL recalls that England qualified for the first final of a major tournament after 55 years with Kane’s rebound to score that penalty after Schmeichel stopped the initial kick to book their place in Sunday’s final alongside Italy after beating Denmark 2-1.

But questions were raised about incidents that occurred during the game that were said to have been perpetrated by English fans which UEFA promised to investigate, especially the use of the laser pointer, disturbances and booing during the Danish national anthem, and fireworks use.

An official statement from UEFA read in part: “The CEDB has decided to fine the English Football Association €30,000 for the use of laser pointer, disturbances during the national anthems and setting of fireworks.”
