January 16, (THEWILL) – Tunisia suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Namibia in their opening Africa Cup of Nations match in Korhogo on Tuesday. Ranked 115th in the world, Namibia pulled off a major upset against the favoured Tunisians through a late goal from Deon Hotto in the 88th minute.

The winner came from a cross by substitute Bethuel Muzeu, which found Hotto unmarked in the box to head home. The goal marked Namibia’s first-ever AFCON finals victory at their 10th attempt across four tournaments.

Earlier chances saw Namibia’s Peter Shalulile fire straight at keeper Bechir Ben Said when free in the area after 10 minutes. Tunisia threatened after the break with headers from Youssef Msakni and Montassar Talbi, while keeper Lloyd Kazapua denied Elias Achouri with his legs.

As the clock wound down, Kazapua punched over a free kick before Hotto pounced to stun Tunisia. The result leaves them facing an uphill battle to progress from Group F, with matches against South Africa and Mali still to come.

For minnows Namibia, this famous victory will live long in the memory as they claimed their first-ever AFCON finals win in style.
