April 27, (THEWILL) – Liverpool appear poised to name Arne Slot as their next manager following Jurgen Klopp’s departure. The 45-year-old Dutchman currently manages Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. On Friday, multiple Dutch media outlets reported that the two clubs have reached a verbal agreement regarding Slot’s appointment at Anfield.
Slot fuelled speculation about his future on Thursday, by stating his desire to take over from Klopp at Liverpool. “I want to be the next manager of Liverpool,” he told the press. Negotiations between the clubs then progressed swiftly, with Feyenoord and Liverpool holding positive discussions to finalise the move.
According to Dutch newspaper AD, only the final details need resolving before Slot can join the EPL giants. Liverpool hope to complete negotiations over the weekend. The compensation fee Liverpool will pay Feyenoord has also been agreed upon by both parties, Dutch and British media confirmed later on Friday.
The highly-rated Slot has impressed since taking charge of Feyenoord in 2022, leading the Rotterdam club to the Eredivisie title last season. His attacking, high-pressing style has drawn comparisons to Klopp’s philosophy at Liverpool. Slot previously managed in England with Wimbledon’s Academy from 2010 to 2014.
Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have moved decisively to appoint Klopp’s successor following the German’s announcement that he will depart when his contract expires in 2024. Slot’s potential arrival signals an exciting new era for the Reds.
