SAN FRANCISCO, August 05, (THEWILL) – There was pandemonium in Awka, the Anambra state capital on Tuesday when a group suspected to be cultists in a gun battle which lasted for hours killed a baby who was said to have been christened in a church three weeks ago.
THEWILL gathered that the mother of the baby, identified as Mrs. Okoro, boarded a tricycle (Keke Napep) from Eke Awka market and was heading to Amaenyi when the stray bullet suddenly hit her baby, leaving him instantly dead and the mother severely injured.
According to a source from the family who pleaded not to be identified, “The baby was dedicated in the church on 12th of July; three weeks later he was killed. What a painful experience!.”
The source narrated that the woman had gone to the market to get some groceries for the family.
Meanwhile, the police say it has launched an investigation into the fatal incident and would bring the perpetrators to justice.
