Tourism: Expert Expresses Worry Over Hospitality Industry Net Loss

July 03, (THEWILL) – A key player in the nation’s hospitality and tourism industry, Engr. Nonso Oraka, has called on the government to initiate business-friendly policies, which would enable their businesses grow, stressing that the net loss of operators are increasing.

According to the operator, the running cost in the hospitality and tourism business alone is making it difficult for private sectors to thrive in the business.

The Dome Entertainment Operations Manager, Engineer Nonso Oraka, who gave the advice during a facility tour of the Centre recently, expressed disappointment over the private sectors’ net loss, which he said occurs, only when government fails to initiate policies that will enable them act on their civil operations to foster economic growth.

Although Oraka noted that without taxes, it would be impossible for government to run the country effectively, he added that some of the major challenges facing the hospitality industry include double taxation, electricity tariff hike, constant diesel supply, security, amongst others.

Speaking, at the recent tour of the Centre, Oraka expressed worries on government inability to foster economic impacts by imposing stringent policies that will hamper investors to thrive in business.

While explaining that such situation may lead to a business winding up. Oraka insisted that the government can perform its civil operations through funds realised in the payment of taxes.

Despite the challenges, the tourism expert said that they as operators, cannot quit because the government policies are not friendly.

He said, “We cannot hold back or shutdown the business, so we need to do everything possible to make sure we survive in the business. we are putting more efforts and bringing more professionals and we are doing everything possible to make sure the business, moves forward.”

On security, Oraka said that “safety is paramount in the tourism centre as such, guests walking into the place desire to see a safe and secure environment. In Dome, we have made provision for security facilities, security gadgets and also trained armed men to monitor the environment.”

Part of Dome Entertainment management efforts made to enhance security is also prioritised staff well-being, whereby the organisation has created a work supportive environment with empowerment schemes include training and retraining, over time bonuses, feeding and transportation allowances, pension implementation, health insurance and so on.

To boost it’s Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSRs), the management has been involved in various community developmental projects to improve the livelihood and the community and this reflect on electricity, security and more.

Assuring that the Dome recreation and entertainment hub, has the touch of ecotourism, he also pointed out that the facility allows guests seeking adventures to explore the unique offerings.
