March 16, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has declared his commitment to outsmarting smugglers and what he refers to as “old subsidy beneficiaries”, who are pushing back against his administration’s efforts to prioritise critical sectors affecting Nigerians’ welfare.
Tinubu made the declaration on Friday, during a meeting with members of the Forum of State Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.
President Tinubu had in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, declared an end to the payment of petrol subsidy.
Speaking on Friday, in Abuja, the President emphasised the need to defend the treasury for the people and ensure good governance prevails despite challenges from corrupt elements.
The President, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, reassured citizens of ongoing efforts to enhance living standards.
Titled “President Tinubu to APC Leaders: old subsidy beneficiaries may resist us, but Nigeria will overcome them with good governance and commitment to our people”, Tinubu urged grassroots leaders to facilitate National Identification Number registration to better plan interventions and integrate individuals into relief programs.
Highlighting the significance of agriculture in driving economic growth, President Tinubu outlined initiatives such as large-scale livestock farming and mechanised agriculture to transform past crises into present opportunities for prosperity.
Emphasising the importance of proactive governance, Tinubu urged party members to engage citizens in essential activities like NIN registration for social security interventions and accurate data-driven decision-making.
On his part, APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, announced plans to establish the Progressive Institute of Policy and Development, aiming to benefit party members and the wider Nigerian populace.
In response, the Forum of APC State Chairmen pledged unwavering support for President Tinubu’s economic programs while affirming their commitment to driving progress under his leadership.
