December 25, (THEWILL) – At least three worshippers were killed by gunmen, who attacked the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Nkweagu, in Abakaliki local government Area of Ebonyi state, on Christmas Eve.
Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Rev. Peter Nworie, said the incident occurred at about 11:30 pm on Sunday.
He explained that the suspected killers invaded the church while a priest was celebrating a vigil mass service and killed and injured many others.
“This is the first time such an incident has happened in the church and Ebonyi State in general”, he said.
The state Police Command has not issued any statement on the incident.
