August 20, (THEWILL) — Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled attacks by suspected terrorists and rescued 10 kidnapped civilians in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States.
The latest military successes came as troops sustained offensive and intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting terrorist networks, rescuing abducted persons and preventing attacks on vulnerable communities across the North-West.
The Theatre Command said the operations were conducted between August 18 and 19, 2026, in response to terrorist activities and intelligence concerning the locations of kidnapped victims.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops demonstrated swift and decisive responses during the operations, forcing terrorists to abandon their positions and flee.
Terrorists Ambush Troops In Sokoto
In Sokoto State, troops conducting a patrol in Isa Local Government Area on August 19 encountered a terrorist ambush.
Rather than being overwhelmed by the attack, the troops responded swiftly and decisively, forcing the terrorists to flee the area in disarray.
Five civilians were rescued during the encounter and subsequently reunited with their families. The troops also recovered two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

A day earlier, on August 18, troops operating in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State acted on intelligence concerning three kidnapped victims. The troops immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation in the area.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of all three victims, who were subsequently profiled and handed over to the appropriate local authorities.
Also on August 18, troops responded to reported terrorist activities in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The rapid mobilisation of the troops reportedly forced the terrorists to flee the area, abandoning two captives.
The victims had sustained gunshot wounds during their ordeal. They were immediately evacuated to a medical facility where they were taken for urgent treatment.
The military said efforts were ongoing to track and neutralise the fleeing terrorists responsible for the attack and abduction.
