The rescue in Imo came after suspected kidnappers intercepted two commercial buses conveying prospective corps members and other passengers along the Onitsha-Owerri Road in the early hours of Thursday.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Thursday, September 3, followed credible intelligence received by the troops at about 12:30am on the location of the suspected bandit's hideout.

A statement signed on Monday by Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Gusau, Captain Yusuf Mohammed, disclosed that the troops, operating under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, intercepted the suspects on a Golf Wagon with registration number BMJ-143AA, during a stop-and-search operation along the Kauran Namoda–Shinkafi Road on Sunday.
