November 17, (THEWILL) – There was tension at Wurno Road area of Kaduna State on Friday, as officers of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) stormed the Kaduna State Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the arrest of some suspected Internet fraudsters including serving military personnel.
THEWILL reports that NAF officers stormed the anti-graft agency office located at 4, Wurno Road, around 10am in about three Hilux patrol vans and surrounded the main gate, preventing staff of the agency from gaining access to the office.
According to Channels Television, the Air Force and policemen attached to the EFCC engaged each other in a shouting match with the two federal security agencies pointing their guns at each other.
Spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest of the military personnel.
Oyewale said suspects, including a serving Nigerian army officer and six NAF personnel, were arrested on Monday, for internet-related fraud and are currently in the custody of the commission, pending the conclusion of its investigation and prosecution.
Oyewale emphasised that the EFCC, as a statutory Federal Government law enforcement agency, would not be coerced by any person or a sister agency while carrying out its official duty.
