December 8, (THEWILL) – Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and manager Erik Ten Hag, were named the English Premier League’s Player and Manager of the Month, respectively for November 2023, rounding off an unbeaten month for the resurgent Red Devils.
United won all three of their league matches in November, without conceding a goal, aided by Maguire’s return to the starting eleven after a lengthy spell out of favour under ten Hag. The 30-year-old, centre-back has faced widespread criticism over the past year for subpar performances, even appearing likely to depart Old Trafford over the summer before a mooted transfer to West Ham fell through.
However, ten Hag’s recent decision to recall Maguire in place of the similarly out-of-form Raphael Varane paid dividends in November. With their newly reinstated former captain marshalling the back line, United were the only EPL side not to drop points and kept three consecutive clean sheets.
The manager’s bold call caps a turnaround in form for United, who despite lingering in 6th position have closed to within touching distance of the top four. After poor early results placed huge pressure on Ten Hag, this is the third Manager of the Month award.
The Dutchman still trails legendary former United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson’s record of 27 awards, but with the Red Devils matching 5th-placed Tottenham on points, he will be hoping this proves a turning point in this season at Old Trafford
