October 04, (THEWILL) – Ted Lasso, a hugely successful Apple TV+ show, has apparently paid £500,000 (about $680,000) to be granted permission to utilise the English Premier League’s trademarks, team jerseys, and league’s trophy in episodes.
The agreement initially looked unlikely after Premier League executives were allegedly sceptical of the broadcast. However, “executives have grown to love the show’s folksy charm” as the show itself has become something of an entertainment force.
Ted Lasso features the eponymous figure, an American football coach who takes over the reigns of AFC Richmond, a fictional English football side. The end result is amusing and delightful, with star Jason Sudeikis and others winning honours for their contributions.
Future episodes will be able to incorporate the Premier League in a variety of ways, including using real-game footage as needed.
It is unclear how this new partnership will work out in terms of where Premier League emblems and other elements would appear, but one thing is certain: future Ted Lasso seasons will be more realistic than ever.
