October 08, (THEWILL) – Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have crushed an attack by members of the Lakurawa terrorist group on Forward Operating Base Maiyama in Kebbi State.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, who disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday, said, the terrorists launched the attack in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, mobilising in large numbers on more than 100 motorcycles and armed with assorted weapons, including General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) and Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs).
The assault appeared aimed at overwhelming the military formation and disrupting the troops’ operations in the area. However, the soldiers responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and successfully repelling the assault.
Unable to achieve their objective, the terrorists retreated from the area, abandoning weapons, motorcycles, equipment, and other logistics in their haste to escape.
Following the engagement, troops launched exploitation and pursuit operations in the surrounding areas, leading to the recovery of 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and a communication device believed to have been used by the terrorists during the attack.

The military said the recovery of the weapons, communication equipment and motorcycles represented a significant setback to the operational capability of the terrorist group in the area.
The Theatre Command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA said it remained committed to maintaining security across its Joint Operations Area, protecting communities and denying terrorists the freedom to operate.
