SAN FRANCISCO, October 12, (THEWILL) – The Super Eagles of Nigeria will undergo coronavirus tests ahead of their international friendly with the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia tomorrow, October 13. This test will be their second in one week.
THEWILL recalls that earlier tests carried out on the team last week before their lone goal loss to the Desert Foxes of Algeria all came back negative.
“We are taking another COVID-19 testing tomorrow (Monday) ahead of Tuesday’s game,” Super Eagles’ media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, said on Sunday evening.
The team has taken the positives from the defeat to the Algerians, which was the entire purpose of the friendly, and hopes to give a better account of themselves in Austria against the Mondher Kebaier-led side, one of the highest-ranked teams on the continent.
“We have had very good recovery after Friday’s game,” Ibitoye continued. “And we have had some good training sessions too … so we are hoping for a better game and result on Tuesday against Tunisia.”
THEWILL learnt that team coach Gernot Rohr faces a selection headache in finding a way to balance fielding a competitive side and giving players who honoured the invitation to camp a fair chance at playing for their country. He must know that another defeat will be counterproductive and the midfield options have thinned due to injuries and the COVID-19 restrictions that kept some players away.

He will have to creatively use players at his disposal to get the results he needs. And against a very tactical side like the Desert Eagles, he will be lucky not to have fortune desert his own Super Eagles.
