July 03, (THEWILL) – The highly anticipated 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to kick off on July 20 and will run until August 20.

Jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, the tournament will see 32 teams from around the world vying for the prestigious title. It will commence with a Group A match between hosts New Zealand and Norway while the Super Falcons, in Group B, will play their first match on July 21 against Canada, at Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium.

The participating teams have been divided into eight groups, with each group consisting of four teams. Excitement is mounting as the countdown to the tournament begins.

The matches will be held across 10 stadiums, with six located in Australia and four in New Zealand. These stadiums include Lang Park, Hindmarsh Stadium, Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, Perth Oval, Stadium Australia, Sydney Football Stadium, Dunedin Stadium, Eden Park, Waikato Stadium, and Wellington Regional Stadium. The largest of these is Stadium Australia, boasting an impressive capacity of 70,000 seats.

These state-of-the-art venues are expected to provide a spectacular backdrop for the thrilling clashes that lie ahead. The competition will follow a round-robin format in the group stage, with each team playing three matches. The group stage will conclude on August 3. The top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 16, where the knockout rounds will begin on August 5.

From there, the tournament intensifies, with one-off matches that can go into extra time and penalties to determine the ultimate winner. The climax of the tournament, the final, will take place on August 20 at Sydney’s iconic Stadium Australia, promising an exhilarating showdown for the coveted Women’s World Cup title. The Falcons will be hoping to have a better tournament than their previous best of a quarter-final exit in 2004.
