July 14, (THEWILL) – Niger Delta Stakeholders have lauded the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) over plans to create 10,000 jobs for youths in the region.
The stakeholders, who are members of a pro-Niger Delta advocacy group, Niger Delta Oil Communities Agenda (NIDOCA), in a statement on Thursday, in Ughelli, Delta State, commended the NDDC for the positive initiative.
In a statement issued by its Director, Media and Publicity, Pastor Emma Akpovoka, the group said, “We commend the Managing Director of NDDC, Mr. Sam Ogbuku, and the entire management of NDDC for the laudable initiative to empower and create jobs for 10000 youths across the member states.
“We also advise the NDDC to ensure that youths from oil-producing and impacted communities are given utmost priority. The people in the oil-producing and impacted communities suffer the hazard of oil exploration, therefore, a high percentage of the 10000 jobs should be reserved for youths from the host communities.
“The Project Hope initiative and proposal by the management of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to create about 10,000 jobs for youths across the Niger Delta region is commendable and should be supported by stakeholders in the region.
“We urge Sam Ogbuku and the management of NDDC to remain focused and initiate more people-oriented policies that will directly benefit the oil-producing and impacted communities in the region.”
The group, which had appreciated President Bola Tinubu for retaining Ogbuku as Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, further noted that it was time to focus on the oil-bearing communities in the region.
