April 3, (THEWILL) – Rayo Majadahonda’s Senegalese goalkeeper, Cheikh Kane Sarr, has received a two-match suspension from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). This punishment comes after Sarr confronted a fan, who allegedly racially abused him during a Spanish third-division match on Saturday against Sestao River.
In addition to Sarr’s ban, Rayo Majadahonda were deemed to have forfeited the match 3-0, docked three points, and fined €3,006 for refusing to continue playing following the incident. Sestao River must play two home games behind closed doors and pay a €6,001 fine for failing to address the alleged racist behaviour.
The RFEF ruled that while Sarr’s reaction to entering the stands was “contrary to good sporting order”, it was a minor offence given the “mitigating circumstances” of alleged “racist insults” that provoked his response. This case further fuels the ongoing debate around racism in Spanish football.

On the same day, Getafe were ordered to partially close their main stand for three matches and fined €27,000 after racist and xenophobic abuse was directed at Sevilla manager Quique Sanchez Flores and player Marcos Acuna during a La Liga game.
Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr, who has faced numerous racist incidents in Spain, stated: “Racists must be exposed and matches cannot continue with them in the stands, the place they deserve [is] jail.”
