October 12, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur defeated 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday thanks to Son Heung-Min’s brace as Tottenham moved to the top of Group D.
At an emotional Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Spurs were playing their first home game after the passing of former fitness coach, Gian Piero Ventrone, Antonio Conte’s team fell behind to Daichi Kamada’s 14th-minute minute opener.
The lead of the UEFA Europa League champions did not last long because, five minutes later, Spurs responded with goals from Son either side of a Harry Kane penalty. Then, Tuta was sent off for two bookable offences in the second half.
Even though Frankfurt pulled one back three minutes before regulation time through Faride Alidou and Kane missed a very late penalty, the efforts on both sides were not enough to increase the goals.
The result from the other group match where Marseille defeated Sporting CP means Tottenham are top of Group D, while Eintracht drop to the bottom. Spurs are against Everton on Saturday and Frankfurt will take on Leverkusen that same day.
