September 30, (THEWILL) – The Sokoto State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal has affirmed the election of Ahmed Aliyu, as the governor of the state.
The three-man panel of the tribunal, led by Justice Haruna Msheila in its ruling, dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Saidu Umar, challenging the victory of the governor in the March 18 poll.
Umar had approached the tribunal to challenged the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 18th gubernatorial election in Sokoto State.
The petitioner had alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 among other electoral fraud.
But in its judgement on Saturday, the tribunal rejected the prayers of the petitioner to annul the victory of Governor Aliyu. It held that the petitioner failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt.
