February 03, (THEWILL) – Voters at Saturday’s rerun election in Sokoto State, turned out in large numbers to cast their votes for their preferred candidate.

Our Correspondent who visited most polling units observed that election officials and materials arrived early and accreditation of voters commenced around 9 am while the election process was relatively peaceful.

Some presiding Officers offered a brief sensitisation to party agents on how to conduct themselves before the commencement of voting and priority voting was given to the elderly, persons with disabilities and pregnant women in most polling units observed.

Some of the polling units visited include; Gidan Masha in the Lambara ward of the Shagari Local Government Area and Yabo B ward in the Yabo Local Government Area of the State.

Recalled that the Court of Appeal in its ruling, had ordered a re-run election in one Federal Constituency of Yabo/Shagari federal house of representatives and two state assemblies of Bodinga North as well as Tambuwal West respectively.

The contest was held between two candidates from leading political parties in the state, the All Progressive Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party

However, there are allegations of vote buying from both political parties. Sources said some prospective voters were offered the sum of N10,000 before casting a vote and received an additional N20,000 after voting to make the sum of N30,000.
