Global Integrated Consult, has sponsored the training of fifty Youths in Sokoto State on solar power installation training as part of an effort to support the State Government in tackling unemployment among youths in the State.

Speaking at the declaration of training, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Network, Engineer Zayyanu Tambari Yabo, said the training is one of the various initiatives lined up by the organisation to support the State Government in the area of human development of the State.

He said the beneficiaries, who all hailed from the State, were selected meritoriously from the 23 local government councils.

Yabo urged the youths to take the training with utmost seriousness and adhere to instructions during the training sessions, warning that whoever is found wanting will be exited from the programme.

In his address, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, who was represented by Alhaji Sani Umar Jabi, the district head of the Gagi, said such an initiative would reduce insecurity in the State.

He charged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training in reducing unemployment and create more positive changes in their communities, saying, “The insecurity is being caused by youths’ unemployment.”

Yabo, who sponsored the training, said Sokoto State is blessed with a favourable climate that is suitable to generate enough solar power compared to the southern part of the country. “When utilised properly, Sokoto will provide a huge amount of solar power among other states,” added.

He, however, highlighted many benefits of solar training for the State, saying, “Apart from getting employment for the teeming youths, reducing insecurity, it will also improve the poverty index rate of the State.”

In his remarks, the Special Adviser on Rural Electrification to the State Governor, Engineer Mustapha Muhammad, said the objectives and vision of the network are in line with part of the nine-point agenda of the State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.

He said the current administration in the State is committed to engaging more youths to reduce the rate of unemployment and insecurity in the State.

He further assured that the administration will continue to provide the necessary support and provide an enabling environment for whoever is interested in supporting youth engagement in the State.
