SAN FRANCISCO, October 13, (THEWILL) – The Senate on Thursday passed into law a bill amending the law establishing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, which would extend the validity of the result of the board’s examination from one year to three years.
The Upper Chamber unanimously passed the Bill for an Act to amend the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Act 2016, after the Chairman of its Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND, Senator Jibril Barau laid the report before it.
Among other things, the act allows JAMB candidates, who could not gain admission into their preferred institution for the examination year, to be able to secure admission the following year with the same JAMB result, but not exceeding a period of three years.
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in his ruling, acknowledged that the amended Act shall be “a great relief for both students and parents as it will reduce their financial and psychological burdens”.
